Job Description

The Power Electronics Design Engineer is a design and development role within the Advanced Battery Core Electronics Team that reports directly to the Global Electronics Engineering Manager. This important role provides technical solutions within in a team environment to design and develop power electronic circuits and components as part of the Battery Management System (BMS) that goes into our clients new generation of lithium-ion batteries. The electronic BMS is critical to the performance and safety of the battery. As a member of this team, you will be exposed to the latest in BMS technology and contribute to developing best-in-class electronic battery controls. Responsibilities include:
Review customer specifications, industry standards, regulatory standards and internal design guidelines to establish product electrical requirements.
Performs the requirement analysis and validation planning activities specific to customer projects.
Performs design verification activities such as engineering analysis, simulation, design reviews, DFMEAs, validation testing and reporting.
Generates technical requirements of the electrical architecture and electrical circuit design, components and sub-assemblies including PCBA, contactors, fans, temperature sensors, Flex PCBs and other electrical hardware.
Generates hardware / software interface specifications and electronic test software requirements, working closely with the embedded software engineering team.
Proficient in the use of electronic design and development tools, including schematic capture, layout, analysis, and simulation.
Design and test for vehicle level electrical and electromagnetic performance per customer requirements. Optimize the electrical system design to balance cost, performance, mass, volume, and energy efficiency.
Review electrical design analyses and test results in support of design verification.
Define test setups, plans, and execute tests for electrical circuits and components.st setups.
Evaluate Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders for completeness.
Lead the technical investigations and resolutions of electrical component and circuit issues.
Develop relationships with suppliers to deliver components to specifications.
Actively participates on assigned project teams and tasks with other engineering disciplines.
Able to work independently, managing on-time tasks and responsibilities while performing some tasks under guidance.

Required Skills & Experience

BSEE from accredited four-year college or university.
5-9 years of professional engineering experience in related field
Experience with schematic capture, for example Altium or similar
Experience with electronic circuit debug, test, and simulation tools
Experience with requirement management tools, for example Doors or Jama
Solid communication and organizational skills
Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Suites)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

OE Automotive/Tier 1 experience with powertrain systems/components
Experience with Lithium-Ion battery systems
Master of Science in power electronics
Magnetic component design experience
Experience with automotive product development and qualification
Experience with EMI noise mitigation
Experience with GAN and SiC power components and high precision analog design
