Day to day:
Insight Global is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Lead to sit 3 days a week on site in Glendale/Milwaukee, WI for one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of advanced, low-voltage battery technologies. They manufacture and supply batteries for a wide range of vehicles, including cars, commercial vehicles, and powersports. 1 in 3 vehicles are powered by the clients batteries across 100+ countries worldwide. The Mechanical Engineering Lead will be responsible for overseeing all deliverables through the product development process. They will be working with DFMEAs and DVPs as well as test plans and design failure mode processes. They will be overseeing new product development and designing using SolidWorks, and 3D CAD. This is a cross functional position where the candidate will be working heavily with other areas of the company such as hardware, manufacturing, testing, procurement, as well as customers. This lead will need to have great communication skills to be able to explain timeline, progress updates, interface with customers as well as suppliers, and be able to mentor junior designers.
Responsibilities include:
Lead mechanical design of energy storage devices.
Define systems to meet structural and thermal requirements.
Interface with customers to propose balanced solutions.
Review and update product requirements.
Build devices with complex mechanical components.
Create and approve 3D CAD and 2D drawings.
Support design and development with a global team.
Review FEA and CFD analysis and validation testing.
Ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
Own mechanical engineering documentation.
Provide input for test plans and testing.
Lead cost reduction activities.
Participate in team meetings.
Provide input for product quality.
Lead prototype and pre-production builds.
Support customer RFI/RFQ efforts.
Take on various roles to meet program timing.
