Job Description
Our client is looking for a lead engineer to participate in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels. This company is creating new sea vessels – small and medium sized – for various government customers. Conversion salary expectations are between $110,000-140,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
The primary role of Lead Engineer is to lead the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of high-speed aluminum vessels. Our client is responsible for building and creating new sea vessels both small and medium for a variety of government customers.
Day to day:
· Overseeing a variety of mechanical engineers for the design of the vessels
· Performing and reviewing 3D models
· Designing and reviewing all aspects of the vessels
· Ensure that federal regulations for engineering standards are met
· Mentoring staff, ensuring deadlines are met
Work in Ship Constructor and SolidWorks for models and designs

Required Skills & Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
· Fifteen (15) years of directly related, boatbuilding/shipyard, experience required – high speed aluminum vessels preferred
· Experience and familiarity with industry regulations: ABS, USCG CFR, IACS, ABYC, IEEE, IMO/SOLAS, and military contracts is preferred.
Design experience with Ship Constructor and/or SolidWorks
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
· Experience with aluminum craft or vessels
· Familiarity working through military or defense contracts/programs
Experience with prototype, one-off or custom boatbuilding.
