Key Responsibilities:
Work Authorization Process Knowledge: Create, process, and manage WAFs, tagouts, and similar work controls. Understand how WAFs tie into safety, QA, production sequencing, and system turnovers.
Familiarity with Controls: Handle hot work/confined space controls, tagout/lockout procedures, permit to work (PTW) systems, and testing/inspection hold points related to WAFs.
Planning & Production Coordination: Collaborate with planning, engineering, and trades to issue and close WAFs. Read production schedules, blueprints, and system diagrams. Coordinate WAFs with planned work packages to avoid production delays.
System and Zone Familiarity: Have a working knowledge of shipboard systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, piping, propulsion) and understand how WAFs integrate with testing and inspection milestones.
Documentation and Compliance: Ensure WAFs feed into QA records, test packages, and system completion. Experience with ABS, NAVSEA, or USACE specifications is a plus.
Software Tools: Use electronic WAF systems, ERP tools (ShipConstructor), and be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and production tracking systems.
Other Skills and Traits: High attention to detail, strong communication skills, ability to enforce accountability, and process-oriented mindset.
