As a Senior Manager, Underwriting, you’ll be part of the mortgage operations organization that powers a seamless, end‑to‑end home financing experience for our customers. Our team plays a critical role in our company mission to make it easier to move by simplifying how customers buy and finance their homes. The Underwriting team is the engine of our credit integrity, ensuring every loan we originate is consistent, compliant, and aligned with agency guidelines and company risk appetite. You’ll collaborate closely with Processing, Closing, Capital Markets, and Risk leadership to streamline decisioning workflows and remove friction from the customer journey. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for managing a team of Underwriters to ensure high-quality credit decisions and operational excellence. You will own people leadership, loan quality oversight, and continuous process improvement for the underwriting lifecycle—from initial submission through final approval. Reporting into a senior operations leader, you will lead a team that handles complex financial analysis and risk assessment, ensuring all files meet rigorous regulatory and investor standards. You’ll design and refine workflows, implement quality controls, and use data to drive performance across quality, speed, and customer satisfaction. Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience, including at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role
Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements; must have recent Conventional and FHA experience (VA experience preferred)
Data-Driven Manager with a proven track record of using KPIs (e.g., turnaround times, audit findings, and production volume) to manage day-to-day operations and team capacity
Strong People Leader who builds trust, sets clear expectations, and invests in the development of individual contributors through effective coaching and 1:1s
Excellent communicator with the interpersonal skills to translate complex credit decisions into clear, actionable updates for stakeholders and cross-functional partners
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Direct experience in FinTech or high-growth mortgage environments where technology and processes are frequently iterated
Active DE/CHUMS and/or SAR/LAPP designations strongly preferred
Change Management Experience, specifically leading teams through system migrations or the implementation of automated underwriting enhancements
Knowledge of Secondary Markets and how underwriting decisions impact investor delivery and loan salability.
