Role Summary
An employer is seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer to join the Security Engineering team. This is a 6-month contract role (potential to hire) focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable DevOps solutions. The position will play a key role in modernizing legacy build infrastructure, accelerating software delivery, and embedding security into every stage of the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
• Modernization Project:
o Migrate from legacy Perl-based build systems (built in the late 1990s) to modern CI/CD pipelines.
o Containerize applications and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
o High-visibility initiative reporting to the CIO.
• Core DevOps Duties:
o Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins.
o Architect and implement IaC for on-prem and cloud environments (Terraform/OpenTofu, AWS CloudFormation).
o Automate provisioning, deployment, testing, and monitoring using Python, Bash.
o Develop and manage containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes).
o Implement continuous monitoring, logging, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, OTEL).
o Apply configuration management (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack).
o Champion DevSecOps by integrating security checks into pipelines and infrastructure.
o Troubleshoot complex system and deployment issues.
o Collaborate in Agile teams; participate in daily stand-ups, design reviews, and 2-week sprints.
o Document technical solutions and mentor peers on best practices.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5–8 years of DevOps experience
• Strong background in CI/CD, IaC, containerization, and configuration management.
• Experience beyond Git (e.g., Subversion, ClearCase).
• Release management expertise (semantic versioning).
• Familiarity with complex branching workflows.
• Knowledge of Software Bill of Materials (SBOM).
• OpenSSL and signing processes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Bazel or Buck (build systems).
• Rust programming experience.
• Security focus:
o Worked in a security company or adjacent space.
o Experience resolving CVEs or handling security incidents.
