Job Description
The role of the Underwriter is to conduct a thorough analysis of mortgage loan files to determine compliance with agency, company and investor guidelines to ensure salability of closed loans. In this position, the Underwriter evaluates mortgage loan applications by analyzing borrower credit, income, assets, liabilities, and property details to assess overall risk and eligibility. The role involves applying agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines to make sound approve, suspend, or decline decisions, while leveraging automated underwriting systems and validating supporting documentation. Underwriters issue clear, accurate conditions, resolve complex credit scenarios, collaborate closely with loan officers and operations teams, and ensure all decisions are well‑documented, compliant, and audit‑ready—balancing risk management with speed and a positive borrower experience.

Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of underwriting expertise across conventional, FHA, VA, and jumbo loans, with sound credit judgment and independent decision‑making
Proven ability to underwrite efficiently using AUS (DU/LP) and modern digital LOS platforms in a high‑volume environment
Balances speed, accuracy, and risk management while consistently meeting turn‑time and quality SLAs
Data‑driven, risk‑aware mindset with the ability to assess layered risk and apply guidelines thoughtfully
Customer‑centric approach, delivering clear, solution‑oriented conditions that support a strong borrower experience
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a compliance‑first, audit‑ready approach in a fast‑moving, tech‑enabled organization
