Job Description
The Project Director will lead a large-scale hydroelectric dam refurbishment project, overseeing all phases from pre-engineering through construction and commissioning on a complex brownfield site. This role requires managing the modernization of 50–70-year-old equipment, including generators and rotating machinery, while ensuring technical excellence and compliance with EPC standards. The Project Director will set goals and milestones, align global functional teams, and maintain operational efficiency across engineering, procurement, and construction disciplines. Acting as the primary liaison with commercial utilities, municipalities, and government agencies (experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers is highly desirable), the Director will manage customer expectations, resolve technical challenges, and drive risk mitigation strategies. Responsibilities include supervising a cross-functional team, coordinating with engineering teams in Montreal, and ensuring seamless communication between stakeholders. The position demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to travel extensively—spending approximately 50% of the time on-site at Rock Island Dam and traveling to Montreal during early project phases.
