Job Description

Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Mechanical Test Technician (Contract) to support our multidisciplinary research team in the testing and validation of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will assist engineers and researchers by preparing test setups, executing test protocols, collecting data, and maintaining laboratory equipment. This role is critical to ensuring the quality and reliability of our research hardware and prototypes.

Responsibilities
● Set up, operate, and maintain mechanical and electro-mechanical test equipment and fixtures.
● Execute test protocols for components, assemblies, and systems under the direction of engineers and researchers.
● Collect, record, and organize test data with high attention to detail.
● Assist in troubleshooting and debugging test setups and hardware issues.
● Support the fabrication, assembly, and modification of test fixtures and prototypes.
● Maintain laboratory organization, inventory, and equipment calibration records.
● Communicate test results and observations clearly to the engineering team.
● Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Required Skills & Experience

● Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
● 2+ years of experience in a mechanical testing, laboratory, or technician role.
● Familiarity with mechanical test equipment (e.g., Instron test systems, environmental chambers, vibration tables).
● Basic proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
● Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test procedures.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Good written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

● Experience with data acquisition systems and basic data analysis (Excel, Python, or similar).

● Experience in a research or R&D environment.
● Familiarity with CAD software for reviewing part and assembly drawings.
● Experience with the assembly and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems.
● Knowledge of safety protocols in a laboratory or test environment.
