Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Software Test Engineer to support a Navy training and simulation program in Virginia Beach, focused on validating mission-critical systems used by sailors in real-world scenarios.
Conduct hands-on software testing in both lab and shipboard environments to ensure systems perform as expected
Troubleshoot bugs and system issues alongside developers and engineers to improve overall performance and reliability
Assist with integrating applications, operating systems (Linux/Unix), and hardware components into a unified training system
Participate in requirements reviews and design discussions to understand expected functionality before testing begins
Support system installs, validation, and verification efforts during deployments (up to ~10% travel)
Work cross-functionally with software, systems, and integration teams to ensure the system is mission-ready
Help ensure the overall system is stable, reliable, and ready for end-user training operations

What you must have
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, OR
Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, OR
High school diploma/equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience
Required Knowledge & Skills
Systems engineering experience
Working knowledge of Unix/Linux platforms
Experience with C++ and Java
Experience implementing and testing Graphical User Interfaces (GUI)
Ability to develop and execute task plans independently
Required Credentials
Ability to otain a DoD Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+) within 3 months of hire if not currently held.
Must hold a current or active DoD Secret clearance
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with military or training systems
Working knowledge of ActiveMQ
IAT Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+)
Experience with JIRA and Subversion
