Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior VMware Systems Administrator to support one of our Department of Defense clients in Virginia Beach, VA. This individual will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, optimization, and cybersecurity defense of the enterprise virtual infrastructure supporting mission-critical modeling and simulation systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in VMware technologies, Windows Server administration, virtualization performance management, and secure DoD environments.
Essential Responsibilities
• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machine lifecycle management.
• Manage VMware clusters leveraging High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), vMotion, and Storage vMotion technologies.
• Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, including CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization.
• Perform VMware infrastructure upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management in accordance with security and operational requirements.
• Support and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and certificate services.
• Perform system hardening, STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, and cybersecurity compliance activities.
• Troubleshoot Tier II and Tier III issues related to virtualization, Windows Server, storage, networking, and enterprise applications.
• Manage and support SAN/NAS storage systems, VMware datastores, and virtual networking components.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration management records.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, engineering, and operations teams to ensure system availability, security, and performance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior administrators and support personnel.
• Participate in system maintenance windows, incident response activities, and operational support requirements.
Compensation: $55/hr to $57/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Required Skills & Experience

• 10 years relevant IT experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience administering VMware vSphere environments in a production enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS, vMotion, and virtual machine administration.
• Experience supporting Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Experience troubleshooting virtualization performance issues, including storage latency, CPU Ready, memory ballooning, and network bottlenecks.
• Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, and security patch management.
• Ability to develop technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise systems in a secure environment
• Security+ or equivalent certification
• active secret clearance

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Server Focused highly desired
• Linux+ or Microsoft certification preferred
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
• Experience with vSAN, NSX, Horizon, or VMware Cloud Foundation.
• PowerCLI or PowerShell automation experience.
• Experience supporting Modeling & Simulation, JWICS, SIPR, or other classified environments.
• Knowledge of RMF, ACAS, SCAP, and enterprise vulnerability management tools.
• Experience supporting enterprise environments consisting of 100+ virtual machines and multiple ESXi clusters.
