Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II/III to join one of our largest AEC clients in the Virginia Beach, VA area. The ideal candidate will have previous experience within HVAC design specifically with USACE or the Navy. This is a hybrid role with 3 days a week onsite. After contract portion, candidate should be willing to relocate/remain in Virginia Beach/Tidewater area.



Day to day:



The Mechanical Engineer should be capable of working independently with limited supervision to complete small and large project design requirements. The mechanical engineer is responsible for leading projects for new facilities and renovation, modernization, and repurposing of existing buildings. Candidate must be well organized, able to demonstrate critical thinking, quickly recognize issues, and be part of the solution. Candidate will also be expected to:



- Be self-motivated with strong work ethic

- Take pride in and ownership of your work

- Concisely express complex system solutions in very early design phases

- Be proficient in all aspects of mechanical systems design for projects of all sizes

- Evaluate, select, apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and judgement based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings

- Coordinate HVAC systems with other disciplines

- Make major design decisions and recommendations with little input from senior staff

- Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files

- Act as an adviser and review correspondence prepared by junior project team members

- Assist with mentoring of junior staff

- Attend project meetings, both internal and with clients

- Assist in project quality control review

- Review shop drawings, respond to RFI's, and other construction admin related tasks

Required Skills & Experience

- 3-12 years of experience within HVAC design with USACE or Navy

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6+ years of relevant experience, which includes experience and skills in mechanical systems design for buildings

- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

- AutoCAD and Revit experience

***US Citizenship required**

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with building HVAC systems including but not limited to chilled water, hot water, condenser water, steam, and air-side systems

- Experience with sustainable design and energy efficiency

- Knowledge/experience with building plumbing systems design

- Experience with U.S. Department of Defense agency requirements (UFCs, SpecsIntact, etc.)

- Successfully performed the role of lead engineer on various projects

- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently

- Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
