Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a senior‑level electrical estimating professional to lead end‑to‑end estimating and stand up the estimating function from the ground up for commercial electrical projects with one of our general contracting clients in the northern VA area. This role is hands‑on and initially operates as a solo contributor, with a clear expectation to build, refine, and eventually lead the estimating team and processes.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned estimator who wants to take the next step, enjoys teaching and mentoring, and is comfortable owning both estimates and the systems that support them. Key responsibilities below:
- Perform start‑to‑finish electrical estimating for commercial projects.
- Develop and implement estimating processes from ground zero, including templates, bid logs, and review structures.
- Set up estimating software within the first 30 days and refine workflows over time.
- Manage multiple estimates simultaneously and keep bids organized and moving out the door.
- Coordinate and collect vendor and subcontractor quotes required for bids.
- Lead bid reviews, including structured labor‑hour reviews with foremen and superintendents.
- Attend bid walks and RFP walkthroughs as needed (typically 1–2 days during bid cycles).
- Support a weekly estimating rhythm (“macro week”), including deciding what to bid and not bid.
- Over time, train, mentor, and manage junior estimators, helping stand up and scale the team.
Project Types & Scope below:
- Commercial electrical projects ranging from $100K equipment upgrades to $50M data center fit‑outs and retrofits.
- Data center experience is helpful but not required; backgrounds in healthcare or life sciences are also applicable.

Required Skills & Experience
- 10-15 years of professional experience with at least 5-8 (and most recent years) as a senior electrical estimator or similar
- Experience with live‑environment estimating and phased projects.
- Most recent experience must be in estimating.
- Comfortable training others and building a team, not just producing estimates.
- Background with large commercial electrical contractors preferred (e.g., major ECs); mechanical estimating background may also be considered.
