Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager for a top public sector client. This individual will lead a large-scale SQL Server upgrade initiative, stepping in at a critical transition point from planning into execution. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can coordinate across DBA teams, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to drive delivery, manage risks, and ensure seamless testing and validation. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and can independently own timelines, dependencies, and communication while ensuring high-quality outcomes. Pay for this role is between $55-$65 hourly.

Day-to-Day:
Lead a SQL Server database upgrade/migration project nearing execution phase
Own end-to-end project delivery across business and technical teams
Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and resource allocations
Monitor and manage risks, dependencies, and resource constraints
Coordinate testing and validation efforts across infrastructure and business platforms
Facilitate status meetings, stakeholder updates, and decision-making sessions
Ensure system performance and availability during implementation
Resolve conflicts around scope, cost, timing, and resources
Deliver clear reporting, metrics, and executive-level updates
Collaborate closely with DBA teams handling design work
Drive compliance with security and technology standards

Required Skills & Experience

10+ years in technology organizations with 5+ years in project management
PMP certification (or equivalent) – required
Proven experience leading technical infrastructure / upgrade projects, specifically SQL Server or similar database upgrades
Strong experience managing cross-functional teams (DBA, infrastructure, QA, business stakeholders)
Experience working in Agile + Waterfall (hybrid environments)
Expertise in risk management, dependency tracking, and resource planning
Strong communication skills with ability to influence without authority
Hands-on PM who can drive execution and accountability
Experience overseeing testing & validation strategies (risk-based testing)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, Project, Teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience in state/government environments (Commonwealth of Virginia preferred)
Familiarity with SEC 530 security controls
Background in financial services organizations
Experience managing large-scale SQL Server migrations/upgrades
Knowledge of infrastructure/system performance impacts during upgrades
