Job Description

Insight Global is partnering with a medical clinic in Richmond, VA, to replace a departing physician. We are seeking a Medical Director (Pain Management) to provide clinical oversight and, if desired, direct patient care. You’ll step into a fully equipped facility with established workflows and support, ensuring continuity of care for a high‑volume chronic pain population. The most critical need is Medical Director coverage; clinical practice days are available but not required.

Clinical Oversight & Patient Care
• Evaluate and manage adults with acute and chronic pain conditions in an outpatient setting
• Safely prescribe and monitor controlled substances (Schedules II–V) in alignment with federal and Virginia regulations, clinic policies, and best practices in opioid stewardship
• Collaborative practice with 1–2 Pain Management Nurse Practitioners (NP chart review, periodic case reviews, and sign‑offs in accordance with Virginia law)
• Provide physician input on complex cases and support team education/mentorship
• Typical patient volume: ~30–40 patients/day; currently by appointment only

Medical Director Responsibilities
• Serve as Medical Director providing clinical leadership, governance, and quality oversight
• Review/approve clinical policies, protocols, and standards of care; support quality assurance and risk management activities
• Ensure adherence to documentation, regulatory, and payer compliance requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• Active Virginia medical license (MD/DO) in good standing
• DEA registration (active)
• Comfortable running a pain management clinic and prescribing Schedules II–V
• Strong knowledge of opioid stewardship, diversion/misuse risk mitigation, PDMP use, and guideline‑based pain care

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible in an appropriate specialty (e.g., Anesthesiology, PM&R, Neurology, Family/Internal Medicine with Pain focus)
• Prior outpatient pain management experience
• Familiarity with interventional/office‑based procedures (any mix of): nerve blocks, trigger point injections, joint injections, bursa injections, tendon injections, IM injections
