Job Description
This position is for a Technical Writer supporting one of Insight Global's federal customers. The solution is a hyperconverged, multi-tenant hosting environment designed fo enterprise and tactical applications. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving the documentation for the platform and its associated services.
You will work closely with engineers, product owners, and other stakeholders to produce clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical content. This role is crucial for ensuring that developers, administrators, and end-users can effectively build on, operate, and use the solution.
Position Duties:
The Technical Writer will be responsible for the following tasks:
• Documentation Development:
• Author, edit, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including system architecture guides, administrator manuals, user guides, API documentation, release notes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible content for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaboration and Content Gathering:
• Work closely with engineering teams, product owners, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information and ensure the technical accuracy of all documentation.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning, to stay aligned with development cycles and identify upcoming documentation needs.
• Content Management and Strategy:
• Manage the documentation backlog by prioritizing tasks in alignment with project timelines and software release schedules.
• Develop and enforce documentation standards, style guides, and templates to ensure consistency and quality across all materials.
• Organize and maintain the documentation repository, ensuring content is up-to-date, easy to find, and logically structured.
• Review and Quality Assurance:
• Establish and manage a documentation review process with stakeholders to gather feedback and secure approvals.
• Review and edit technical content created by engineers to ensure it meets quality and style standards.
• Proactively identify and address gaps or inaccuracies in existing documentation.
The target pay rate for this position is $35-45/hour and is based on years of experience.

Required Skills & Experience
• Proven experience working as a Technical Writer in a software development or IT infrastructure environment.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and document complex technical systems, architectures, and APIs.
• Experience working within an Agile/Scrum development framework.
• Proficiency with documentation authoring tools (e.g., Confluence, ReadMe, MadCap Flare) and project management software (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Proven experience automating Kubernetes cluster deployments.
• Strong background in writing modular and reusable Ansible Playbooks (Roles).
• Working knowledge of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and/or industry hardening best practices.
• Exceptional troubleshooting skills across complex, distributed systems.
• Experience instantiating, running, and upgrading clusters in a fully disconnected environment.
