Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Special Hull Treatment Mechanic to help support a federal client. The Special Hull Treatment Mechanic or SHT Mechanic is responsible for the removal and installation of hull treatment systems and non‑metallic coatings on submarines. This role requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and precision in a highly regulated shipyard environment.
Day to Day
- Report to the shipyard and check in with the Superintendent to get daily tasking and safety briefings
- Review work packages, drawings, procedures, and safety requirements related to the submarine hull treatment
-The bulk of the day will be spent directly on the Submarine performing specialized surface and treatment work including:
- Removal and installation of sonar hull treatment and non‑metallic coatings
- Performing carpentry‑type work, including:
• Building and removing containments
• Using hand tools and power tools for fabrication and installation tasks
- Preparing molds and templates for hull treatment installation when required
- Applying and working with adhesives, solvents, and troweling tools specific to hull treatment systems
- Measuring, cutting, and positioning materials accurately (basic math and measurement are used daily)
Constant attention to quality standards
Pay Range 23/hr to 30/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Required Skills & Experience
- Must have hands‑on ability to perform carpentry‑type work, including use of manual and power tools and building containments.
- Must be capable of mixing solvents/adhesives, using troweling tools, and operating equipment specific to hull treatment installations.
- Must be able to identify, measure, and prepare materials accurately.
- Must be able to read and follow technical documents, including procedures, drawings, manuals, and safety instructions.
