Our client is seeking an experienced HR Generalist for its Reston, Virginia office. This role handles the day-to-day operations of the human resources department, with ownership of the administrative lifecycle for payroll, benefits, recruiting, and compliance. The HR Generalist will play a key role in HR processes, ensuring compliance with employment law, fostering a positive firm culture, and aligning HR activities with the firm's strategic goals.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• HRCI PHR certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience
• Administers the semi-monthly payroll cycle, including weekly review of time sheets, entering compensation, reimbursements, and variable pay elements, and preparing pre-processing reports. Monitors PTO and overtime, preparing reports for management review.
• Processes qualifying life events, audits monthly enrollment data for deduction accuracy, and serves as the primary liaison for employees regarding claims resolution.
• During open enrollment, supports plan testing, communication development, and post-enrollment audits during the annual renewal period.
• Manages the recruitment lifecycle, including job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, and interview coordination. Conducts background and reference checks, extends offers or regret notices, and prepares offer letters and onboarding packets.
• Executes the orientation process, ensuring all new hire data, I-9 verification, and benefit enrollments are captured accurately in the HRIS. Manages the professional separation process, including exit interviews, documentation preparation, and coordination with IT for system deactivations.
• Maintains data integrity for all personnel actions, including pay changes, promotions, and reporting structure updates. Performs regular mini audits of data entry to ensure accuracy across all modules.
• Manages the digital filing system following strict naming conventions and statutory retention periods to ensure firm-wide audit readiness.
• Acts as the first point of contact for employee and manager inquiries regarding policy interpretation, payroll, and PTO. Provides first-level guidance on minor performance or attendance issues and triages complex matters for the HR Director.
• Supports formal investigations by conducting preliminary fact-finding interviews and maintaining secure, confidential investigation files.
• Ensures firm compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, and ADA. Assists with mandatory reporting, including 401(k) census preparation, and the distribution of ERISA-required notices.
• Researches best practices and benchmarks to assist in drafting updates for the Employee Handbook and internal HR procedures.
• Coordinates logistics for firm-wide training and attorney Continuing Legal Education (CLE). Prepares instructional materials, tracks attendance, and handles the application process for CLE credits.
