Job Description

As a member of a Hardware team for a large Linux enterprise system, the Junior Hardware Technician

will deliver hands-on expertise and perform operational, maintenance, design and configuration tasks

including uncrating of equipment, equipment inspection, installation of equipment in racks ("rack &

stack"), equipment movement, connection of cabling, cable assembly, console configuration, execution

of basic tests, understanding of switch/port layout, console configuration, and server decommissioning

within multiple data centers. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation

and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information prior to starting. This position

will be trained and receive assistance from more experienced hardware engineers.

Basic responsibilities would include but not limited to:

* Rack and stack enterprise class technology (network, storage and enterprise servers).

* Gain experience with integration and system troubleshooting.

* Gain experience with Server configurations, data center services (rack/stack, touch services).

* Running, tracing, dressing and testing copper and fiber cables from patch panel to device.

* Assist in troubleshooting and diagnostics of hardware/connectivity.

* Support commissioning and decommissioning of hardware.

* Support Install and upgrade data center equipment racks, including but not limited to switches,

routers, monitoring systems and other large scale networking gear.

* Learn, understand, create and update cable diagrams and rack elevations.

* Build Fiber Optic and/or computer cables from provided instructions.

Required Skills & Experience

Required:

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

* Detail oriented, self-motivated, and hardworking

* Strength and ability to physically lift equipment at least 40 pounds

* Comfortable bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching frequently

* Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day

* Work in a noisy environment

* Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations when needed

* Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage competing demands, prioritize

appropriately and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously

* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

* Flexibility to travel to CONUS and OCONUS data centers as needed (approx 25-30%)

o Requires Government security clearance

* Ability to work under time pressure and constraints in meeting deadlines as needed

* Strong reading, writing, and oral communication skills

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Desired Skills:

* Hands on expertise building things manually that involve measurements

* Proficient in reading, understanding, creating, or modifying wire diagrams, schematics, and

network diagrams and/or mechanical drawings

* Cable management skills and some experience managing fiber & copper cables

* Familiarization with computer Operating systems

* Basic knowledge of networks and IT systems

* Ability to interact and work with different hardware vendors

* Willingness to obtain certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+, Security+)

* Quick learner and ability to take on more challenging tasks to obtain quotes, prepare purchase

orders, organize workloads, etc.

* College degree preferred
