Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a DevOps/ Systems Security Engineer in Dahlgren, VA, to stand as the main point of contact for creating, leading, and enhancing their Splunk environment while ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity and Risk Management Framework (RMF) standards. This Engineer must have 5+ years of hands-on experience managing and optimizing Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise environments, including data onboarding, user and role administration, dashboard development, and indexer management, while shaping long-term Splunk strategies. Candidates must hold a full Secret clearance and IAT Level II certification, along with a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF), STIGs, and application-layer security principles such as API protection and secure coding practices. Proficiency in SIEM concepts, log management, and correlation rule development is essential, coupled with a willingness to expand expertise in these areas. This role requires exceptional communication and collaboration skills to drive Splunk data ingestion initiatives, ensure log sources meet mission and compliance objectives, and partner with developers and system owners to integrate security telemetry from applications, containers, and cloud workloads. Leadership experience in improving Splunk performance, maintaining data integrity, and implementing health monitoring across hybrid environments (on-prem and cloud) is highly valued. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting Splunk performance and ingestion issues, configuring alerts, reports, and dashboards, applying RMF practices to maintain accreditation standards, and supporting DevSecOps security efforts through code, API, and container monitoring and scanning. The salary for this role ranges from $150,000-$170,000, based on experience.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' of hands on experience with managing and enhancing Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise environments (such as data inputs and onboarding, user/role management and access, dashboard creation, and indexers), and helping shape long-term Splunk strategies
• Full secret clearance and IAT Level II certification
• High school diploma or Bachelor's degree
• Strong understanding of DoD RMF and cybersecurity frameworks (such as STIG and RMF), application-layer security principles (API protection and secure coding practices)
• Proficient in SIEM principles, including log management and the development of correlation rules, and eagerness to further develop skills here
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to set initiatives for Splunk data ingestion, make sure log sources meet mission and compliance requirements, and work with developers and system owners to incorporate security telemetry from applications, cloud workloads and containers into Splunk
• Leadership experience to enhance Splunk performance, maintain data integrity and implement health monitoring across hybrid environments (on-prem and cloud)
• Experience troubleshooting and fixing Splunk issues related to system performance, data ingestion, and parsing
• Experience configuring and overseeing alerts, reports, and dashboards to ensure awareness and support
• Experience implementing DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) practices so that Splunk meets accreditation standards
Experience supporting DevSecOps security and application layer initiatives (such as monitoring and scanning code, API, and container environments)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Splunk Enterprise Security (ES) or comparable security analytics platform experience
• Skilled in integrating cloud-based telemetry from Azure, AWS, and hybrid platforms
•Understanding of DevSecOps pipelines and code analysis tools (such as SonarQube and Fortify)
