Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a driven Systems Administrator to join an engineering team in Chantilly, VA. This role is ideal for a hands-on systems administrator who enjoys taking ownership, solving real technical problems, and working in a fast-paced mission-focused environment. The selected candidate will support Linux-based systems across both physical and virtual infrastructures and will play a key role in maintaining system performance, security, and reliability.
This individual will deploy and manage infrastructure using automation and scripting tools, support containerized applications, and collaborate closely with software engineers, system engineers, and cybersecurity teams. Responsibilities include supporting RMF and cybersecurity initiatives, implementing and maintaining security controls, and ensuring systems comply with DoD, NIST, STIG, and Zero Trust Architecture requirements.
The role also involves supporting CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps processes, and enterprise applications, as well as working within cloud-based and on-prem environments. The team offers strong mentorship and hands-on guidance, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow technically while supporting a critical mission. This is a full-time onsite position requiring daily access to secure systems and environments.

Required Skills & Experience

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Poly
• Linux systems administration experience in physical and virtual environments
• Experience configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux systems
• Experience with automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Perl)
• Experience or exposure to tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Kickstart, Podman, or Docker
• Understanding of RMF and cybersecurity concepts (DoD, NIST, STIGs, Zero Trust)
• Experience supporting CI/CD, Agile, and DevSecOps environments
• Familiarity with DevSecOps tools such as Jenkins, Jira, and Bitbucket
• Basic networking knowledge (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience
• Ability to obtain DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification (Security+) within 3 months of hire
• Willingness to work full-time onsite in a secure environment

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Red Hat certifications (RHCSA or RHCE)
• CompTIA Linux+ certification
• Prior experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community customers
• Experience with virtualization technologies (KVM)
• Experience with backup and storage technologies (NAS, SAN, iSCSI, SAS)
• Experience administering or integrating cross-domain systems
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, etc.)
