Job Summary
The Fire System Technical Expert serves as the primary technical escalation point for complex fire alarm, fire detection, and fire suppression control system issues across Fluence's Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fleet throughout North and South America. As part of the Services organization, this individual leads troubleshooting, root cause analysis, operational excellence initiatives, and technical leadership efforts focused on customer-facing fire system challenges. The role works closely with Engineering, Product, Network Solutions Deployment, Commissioning, Technical Support, Field Service Engineering, Quality, and Customer Operations teams to resolve critical fleet issues, improve reliability, reduce customer downtime, and influence long-term system design improvements.
The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in fire protection systems and industrial controls, with the ability to diagnose complex interactions between fire alarm and suppression systems, plant controls, SCADA platforms, industrial networks, battery systems, and site operating conditions in highly technical and customer-facing environments.
Day to Day Responsibilities
• Serve as the highest-level technical escalation point for fire alarm panels, fire detection systems, and fire suppression systems across the Americas BESS fleet.
• Lead the resolution of critical customer incidents impacting plant availability, safety systems, operational performance, or commercial operations.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and technical investigations involving:
• Fire alarm control panels
• Fire suppression systems
• Smoke detection technologies
• Industrial networking
• SCADA systems
• PLC programming and diagnostics
• Controls engineering
• Electrical protection systems
• BACnet and Modbus communications
• Diagnose complex interactions between fire protection systems, controls systems, networking infrastructure, battery systems, and site operating conditions.
• Lead cross-functional Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts for significant fire system events, failures, and recurring operational issues.
• Partner with Engineering and Product teams to identify systemic fleet issues and drive future design improvements.
• Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise throughout project commissioning, energization, warranty support, and operational phases.
• Support strategic fleet-wide initiatives focused on improving fire system reliability, maintainability, operational performance, customer satisfaction, and overall system availability.
• Develop troubleshooting methodologies, technical standards, service procedures, and operational playbooks for field teams across North and South America.
• Collaborate regularly with Engineering, Product, Network Solutions Deployment, Commissioning, Technical Support, Field Service Engineering, Quality, and Customer Operations teams to resolve technical challenges and improve fleet performance.
• Analyze operational events, trends, and system performance data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced reliability.
• Provide technical leadership and support during high-pressure operational events and customer escalations.

Required Skills & Experience
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of experience supporting industrial fire systems, critical infrastructure facilities, industrial automation environments, data centers, energy storage systems, or similarly complex operational environments.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex fire alarm and fire suppression systems in live operational environments.
• Proven experience conducting technical investigations and root cause analyses.
• Strong understanding of industrial communications, controls systems, and operational technologies.

• Siemens certification and ability to read and deploy SIBX files.
• NICET certification or equivalent fire protection credentials.
• Experience supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Familiarity with industry standards including NFPA 855, NFPA 72, NFPA 68, UL 9540A, and related fire protection and energy storage regulations.
• Experience supporting global or multi-regional operations.
• Experience analyzing large datasets, operational events, and performance trends.
• Strong technical writing, presentation, and documentation skills.
• Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive outcomes through influence rather than direct authority.
• Strong customer-facing communication and relationship management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform effectively during critical operational events and high-pressure situations.
