Job Summary
Fluence is seeking a Hardware Services Engineer to support the reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle management of hardware systems deployed across its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fleet throughout the Americas. This role serves as a technical expert for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex hardware issues in production environments while supporting fleet-wide hardware upgrades, obsolescence management, spare parts planning, and reliability improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will have strong hardware troubleshooting experience and a deep understanding of how systems are built, integrated, and supported in the field. Working closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Network Solutions Deployment (NSD), Field Service, and Customer Operations teams, this individual will investigate hardware failures, perform root cause analysis, support field escalations, manage lifecycle risks, and drive corrective actions that improve fleet reliability, customer uptime, and long-term sustainability of Fluence's installed fleet.
Day to Day Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary technical resource and escalation point for complex hardware-related issues across Fluence's operational BESS fleet.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures in operational and production environments using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, BOMs, system architecture documentation, and manufacturing documentation.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving:
• Chillers and thermal management systems
• HVAC and liquid cooling systems
• Wiring harnesses
• FSTOP systems
• Power distribution equipment
• Sensors and controllers
• Networking hardware
• Fire systems
• Other critical BESS subsystems
• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, NSD, and Field Service teams to identify and resolve hardware design, deployment, and operational issues.
• Lead and support technical investigations related to field failures, hardware non-conformances, warranty claims, customer escalations, and performance concerns.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities, failure investigations, and Lessons Learned reviews to reduce recurring issues and improve fleet reliability.
• Analyze fleet-wide failure trends and work with engineering teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Support hardware upgrade, retrofit, and serviceability initiatives by validating compatibility, identifying risks, developing implementation plans, and supporting execution.
• Develop troubleshooting guides, repair instructions, service bulletins, and technical documentation to improve field support capabilities.
• Provide technical guidance to Field Service Engineers, Technical Support teams, Customer Operations groups, and other internal stakeholders.
• Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning activities, and post-deployment investigations.
• Monitor hardware obsolescence and end-of-life (EOL) risks across the fleet.
• Partner with Supply Chain and Product teams to identify replacement strategies, evaluate alternate components, and support lifecycle management initiatives.
• Support spare parts planning by validating BOMs, reviewing hardware configurations, identifying replacement parts, and coordinating critical spare part procurement to maintain customer uptime.

Required Skills & Experience
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of experience supporting industrial, utility-scale, power generation, renewable energy, energy storage, electrical, electromechanical, or similar hardware systems.
• Strong knowledge of:

• Experience updating and maintaining design drawings using AutoCAD, Visio, or similar tools.

• Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Deployment, and Service organizations.
• Experience supporting field operations, deployment teams, manufacturing organizations, service teams, or customer-facing operations.
• Experience managing multiple technical issues simultaneously while supporting customers and operational teams.
• Deep hardware troubleshooting expertise with the ability to quickly diagnose complex issues in operational or production environments and provide technical leadership with minimal ramp-up time.

Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal).
