Job Overview
Our client is seeking a Vice President of Legal & Compliance to lead U.S. legal, regulatory, and compliance strategy for a large and highly regulated debt purchasing organization. This individual will serve as the senior legal and compliance leader in the U.S., partnering closely with executive leadership and global stakeholders to minimize regulatory, legal, and reputational risk while supporting business growth.
This role owns operational compliance, corporate legal matters, regulatory oversight, vendor and law firm compliance, and team leadership.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Lead U.S. compliance strategy across federal and state regulations impacting debt purchasing and collections
Establish, maintain, and oversee compliance policies, procedures, training programs, and monitoring controls
Advise executive leadership on regulatory changes, compliance risks, litigation exposure, and governance matters
Oversee customer complaints, quality assurance trends, complex disputes, litigation, and counterclaims
Review and provide guidance on contracts, vendor agreements, leases, insurance coverage, and procurement matters
Support privacy compliance, breach response, credit reporting (FCRA), AI-related legal obligations, and 1099-C requirements
Own client audit responses and drive remediation efforts
Manage compliance of external law firms, bankruptcy servicers, payment providers, and vendors through audits and onboarding reviews
Review and approve all external communications (letters, scripts, email, SMS, web content, campaigns) for regulatory compliance
Lead, develop, and performance-manage compliance and quality teams
Drive continuous improvement across compliance frameworks and governance practices

Required Skills & Experience
Core Qualifications (Must-Have)
5+ years of experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory leadership within receivables management, financial services, or legal services
Strong working knowledge of U.S. debt collection laws and regulations (FDCPA, FCRA, state regulations, CFPB expectations)
Experience overseeing compliance programs, audits, complaints management, QA, and breach reporting
Proven ability to advise senior leadership and partner with cross-functional executives
Experience managing and auditing external law firms, vendors, and service providers
Strong contract review and corporate legal experience
Excellent judgment, organizational skills, and stakeholder communication abilities
Bachelor’s degree required; background in law, business, or finance
