Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Purchasing Manager to support its Operations Team. This role will serve as a key liaison between project management teams, internal stakeholders, and the construction industry. The selected candidate will lead a small team of purchasing agents and estimators to develop project budgets that align with company timelines and cost objectives.

Key responsibilities include overseeing vendor contracts, negotiating labor rates and unit pricing, and executing purchasing strategies. The Construction Purchasing Manager will also track cost metrics, mitigate risks, and determine optimal delivery schedules to align with construction timelines. Additionally, this role will leverage their network of trades to source materials and labor, ensuring efficient and cost-effective homebuilding at scale. Strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies in collaboration with ICON leadership
Manage and oversee purchasing agents and procurement activities
Track and report key functional metrics to optimize costs and efficiency
Forecast price and market trends to leverage buying power
Conduct cost analysis and market benchmarking
Identify and establish relationships with reliable vendors and suppliers who align with ICONs mission
Determine quantity and timing of material deliveries
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance in purchasing operations
Input job-specific pricing into the operating system before issuing initial purchase orders
Provide regular cost reporting and project budget reviews with accounting and construction teams
Monitor and report on subcontractor and material price fluctuations

Required Skills & Experience

10+ years of experience in a similar role within residential construction (preferably with a production single-family homebuilder)
Bachelors degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field
In-depth knowledge of the homebuilding construction process and strong relationships with local trades
Proven experience in sourcing and vendor management
Strong negotiation, networking, and vendor management skills
Familiarity with vendor management software
Strong decision-making abilities and leadership experience in purchasing

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

3+ years of experience with ProCore
Previous experience in construction estimating
Spanish proficiency is a plus
