Job Description
The primary purpose of the Pharmacy Technician position is to apply skills and knowledge of pharmacy practice and Clinic procedures to complete the technical functions of chemotherapy and non-hazardous medication compounding. The highest quality of patient care and the appropriate use of resources are achieved in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
KEY FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:
• Performs duties in the IV room that will involve setting up sterile products for dispensing, making appropriate record entries and reviewing IV administration records.
• Assists inspectors, review teams and other staff during routine inquires and inspections.
• Maintains a high degree of accurate productivity and performance while being extremely aware of the specific contribution to total patient care.
• Manufactures uncomplicated and/or complicated parenteral chemotherapy preparations to be delivered in the finished form such as large volume, small volume, infusion syringe, infusion pump or other modality as required.
• Manufactures sterile products that are considered hazardous agents.
• Prepares complex chemotherapy products.
• Correctly interprets physician's orders, selects and measures appropriate ingredients, mixes ingredients in a safe and effective manner, inspects the final product for accuracy, suitability and elegance, labels the product, maintains records of the manufacturing process and prepares the product for delivery.
• Uses either standard protocols or judgment to determine an accurate expiration date for each product prepared.
• Consistently displays competence with good manufacturing practices and sterile technique through demonstration and/or actual work performance.
• Manufactures sterile products that are considered non-hazardous agents for oncology clinic patients and Medical Infusion Clinic patients.
• Maintains a clean environment for compounding sterile products in compliance with USP<797>.
• Maintain open lines of communication with physicians/nurses and consults with them about medical care, policies, and procedures
• Manage and maintain drug inventory and clinical supplies
• Prepare drug orders daily based on clinic schedule and confirmed appointments
• Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with company policy and perform other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the practices obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Required Skills & Experience
- High School Diploma and relevant work experience
- Certification-Pharmacy Technician
- IV Certified (Pharm Tech)
- Minimum two-three years Pharmacy Technician experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, research protocol guidelines, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and professional correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of physicians and employees.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Preferred: Chemotherapy Certification
- Preferred: 3 years oncology pharmacy mixing in a busy clinical environment
- Preferred experience working within an EMR system as well as Pharmacy Management systems. OncoEMR and Lynx Mobile experience highly desired.
