Job Description

A midstream oil and gas client in downtown Houston is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join their team. This team supports both brownfield projects (25%) and greenfield projects (75%). This individual will be responsible for design, selection and implementation of medium/low voltage power systems used in the operation of natural gas pipeline systems. They will be reviewing recommending, and evaluating the design, installation, and operations of medium and low-voltage electrical systems to ensure compliance with NEC requirements while evaluating them for the optimization of efficient, safe and economical operation. This person will need to be familiar with the design of ancillary electrical equipment on low-speed and high-speed compressor stations. They will be reviewing, recommending, and evaluating when soft starts and variable speed drives should be used on equipment. This position is expected to review design/construction drawings that include area classification, wiring diagrams, conduit and cable schedules and PID's to ensure compliance with NEC and API RP500 requirements. They will be interfacing with other technical/engineering disciplines to ensure the effective integration of electrical systems with the overall product design, as well as, with utility companies to obtain short circuit data, new meter loop and services, meter upgrades, new substation and/or upgrades. They may also plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work while supporting the department and Project Manager with delivery. They will also be reviewing/interpreting Arc Flash studies and perform small studies, review relay coordination and root cause analysis.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering



5-15 years of experience with power electrical engineering



Familiar with area classification



Understanding of how to create a load list, what one lines look like, the difference between a connected and demand load to size transformers and generators



Knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC, ISA, NEC, API RP 500, IEEE, etc.



Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

ETAP or SKM or Easy Power experience



Understanding of compression stations



Experience in Oil & Gas, Nuclear Plants, Wind Power, etc.
