Job Description

A company in the Houston area is looking for a Solutions Engineer to join their team. This person will serve as the technical lead for customer-facing power generation and microgrid solutions, owning system architecture, technical scope, and solution development from initial customer engagement through project handoff. This role blends electrical engineering expertise with customer consultation, technical leadership, and solution strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Lead development of microgrid and distributed generation solutions, including system architecture, equipment sizing, and technical scope.
Develop electrical system designs, single-line diagrams, layouts, and medium/low-voltage configurations.
Evaluate power system performance, capacity, reliability, and design tradeoffs.
Act as the primary technical contact for customers, leading presentations, workshops, and technical discussions.
Collaborate with engineering, construction, product, and R&D teams to develop practical, executable solutions.
Prepare technical proposal content, drawings, narratives, and supporting documentation.
Participate in site visits to validate design assumptions and support customer engagements.
Conduct technical reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy of designs and estimates.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
Strong knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power systems, generation systems, and electrical distribution.
Experience creating and interpreting electrical system diagrams and layouts.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills.
Excellent communication and presentation abilities with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to lead customer discussions and collaborate across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

4+ years of experience in power systems, distributed generation, microgrids, or related industries.
Experience with load flow, short-circuit, reliability, or other power system studies.
Familiarity with ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar modeling tools.
Knowledge of switchgear, interconnection systems, protection schemes, and relaying concepts.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software.
Experience supporting technical proposals, RFPs, bids, and customer-facing engineering efforts.
Understanding of utility interconnection, distributed energy resources (DER), and grid services.
