Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to lead the integration of mechanical subsystems for space vehicles. This is a highly collaborative role requiring technical expertise, program management skills, and strong communication abilities to work across multiple organizations and stakeholders.

Day-to-Day
• Lead mechanical subsystem integration for space vehicles (not design-focused).
• Identify technical gaps and issues, and develop solutions that align with cost and schedule constraints.
• Work closely with stakeholders to gain buy-in on technical decisions and agreements.
• Support design reviews, requirements verification, and schedule management.
• Communicate confidently with Program Managers to explain issues and propose solutions.
• Ensure cost containment and schedule adherence across projects.
• Collaborate with multiple teams, including NASA engineering groups, contractors, and commercial partners (e.g., SpaceX, Northrop Grumman).

Internal Notes
• Supporting NASA’s SPEAC Program under the Gateway initiative, which includes living quarters, labs, and docking ports.
• This team is 100% focused on human space flight.
Reason for Opening: The HALO Project Office is developing a Lunar Space Station to orbit the Moon. Previously, Northrop Grumman handled much of the integration work. NASA has taken back some responsibilities, creating gaps that need to be filled by this role.
