Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Senior Data Engineer for one of our largest oil and gas clients in the Houston, TX area. This person will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting full lifecycle data engineering projects, including data ingestion, persistence, transformation, and retrieval processes. This role involves developing, maintaining, and deploying platform or application code, stored procedures, functions, and triggers across development, staging, and production environments. Responsibilities include optimizing SQL and PL/SQL code to enhance query performance, debugging and supporting production issues, and assisting with system integration and testing. This position is onsite in Downtown Houston, five days a week, and the pay rate will be between $65$75/hr.

Required Skills & Experience

· Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years in data engineering. High school diploma or GED required.

· 2+ years in full life-cycle data engineering projects design, implementation, and support.

· Experience in event-driven and cloud architectures, containerization, and streaming technologies.

· Expertise in Oracle, SingleStore, IBM I DB2, SQL & PL/SQL, including ANSI SQL.

· Background in database analysis, development, and maintenance for oil & gas back-office applications.

· Develop and maintain database applications on IBM iSeries with dynamic SQL, temporary/temporal tables, convert RPG code to SQL stored procedures, commitment control, performance tuning, logging, and exception handling.

· Expert SQL stored procedures development in DB2 on IBM iSeries. Note: Embedded SQL and RPG experience alone are insufficient.

· Proficient in reading RPGIV, RPGLE, RPGFree programs, embedded SQL, and using IBM tools like Aldon, RDI, ACS.

· Expertise in ETL tools like SQL*Loader, Equalum, Python scripts.

· Familiarity with No-SQL databases and pipelines (Elasticsearch, MongoDB).

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

· Conversion/modernization from RPG to SQL stored procedures in DB2 is a plus.

· Application development interacting with front end using REST APIs, Json, XML is a plus.

· Exposure to Python, microservices, VS code IDE development is a plus.
