Job Description

A utility client in the Houston area has a need for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their Electric Real-Time Operations team on the Transmission side. This individual will provide technical support for construction and operating the client's electric transmission system. This group traditionally focuses on providing engineering support to the field. This resource will come in and deep dive into the electrical grid, identify issues, or put together a system to identify issues, start putting a plan together, set up policies, etc. The ideal candidate will join this team and be able to identify the solution, look at all the information, analyze the data, educate the customer and act as a consultant. They are looking for someone who would be willing to learn and transition to a more operations focused role. They will be doing construction coordination, meaning they will be assessing outage on the transmission systems to support construction efforts. They will also be supporting regulatory filings influencing state and local policies. They will be resolving customer complaints and investigating their industrial customers power quality issues. They will be supporting transmission planning by providing operational insight on plans.

Responsibilities:
Disseminate information of client's standards & specifications and provide technical assistance to the service centers and customers.
Uses historic data to analyze circuit loading, identify operating issues and make reliability and operational recommendations for the transmission system.
Utilize engineering tools to identify potential reliability issues, equipment failures, report findings and form recommendations for solutions.
-Can facilitate analysis and understanding of what's going on in the system (transmission system, electrical grid, high voltage wiring)
-Put together reports on a regular basis (on what has happened, results, ongoing history of issues in the area)
-Report writing -- gather data, do analysis, and put together a narrative of what is going on
Utilize software to perform engineering studies.
Gathers information and compiles data from multiple sources (SAP, GIS, Key Accounts, Service Centers) to construct electrical models or perform other analysis.
Identify unbalanced circuits and notify S/C personnel to take corrective action.
Aid other engineering groups with investigations of voltage issues/complaints.
Support service center investigation in circuit reliability.
Develop standards on reliability practices and investigations.
Generate various engineering reports
Analyze data and make recommendations to improve circuit performance.
Field inspections to identify operations issues that are causing reliability problems.
Various teams/task forces/special projects.
Performs engineering studies to analyze and respond to request, special studies, etc.
Work with equipment vendors to resolve material issues or identify new technologies and products.
Perform a variety of engineering tasks such as analyze system performance using monitoring equipment and other engineering tools to identify issues and develop solutions
Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
Able to use a computer equipment and software programs to provide project documentation, relay, settings, event analysis, equipment commissioning and management reports.
Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by the client.
Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.
Able to interpret and apply the National Electric and National Electric Safety Codes.

Required Skills & Experience

-10+ years of experience as a Sr. Electrical Engineer working with high voltage
-Understand how transmissions are built and use to running low flow calculations (use to electrical systems in general)
-Experience putting together report summaries on what has happened, results, ongoing history of issues in the area, etc.
-Power quality experience (Harmonics, Resonance, Imbalance)
-Well versed with industry standards and regulations (IEEE)
-If instate -- familiarity with Texas commissioning rules (if out of state, familiar with those states practices)
-Electrical system modeling experience
- Knowledge of protection equipment (GE Relays, RTUs, protection and SCADA equipment, transformers / breakers (high voltage equipment)
-Load flow and fault analysis experience (anything electrical connectivity or electric grid modeling software)
-Knowledge of technology & methods to mitigate power quality concerns
