Job Description

An Insight Global client is seeking an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Architect to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure, resilient industrial control systems across manufacturing and critical infrastructure environments. This role demands deep expertise in industrial automation, cybersecurity, and network design to support digital transformation initiatives while ensuring operational safety and reliability. The architect will develop comprehensive OT architectures for SCADA, DCS, PLC, and HMI systems, design secure network segmentation strategies including DMZs and air-gapped environments, and create technology roadmaps for OT modernization and IT/OT convergence. Responsibilities also include implementing cybersecurity frameworks aligned with IEC 62443, NIST, and NERC CIP standards, conducting risk assessments, designing secure remote access solutions, and developing OT-specific incident response procedures. The role involves providing technical guidance on technology selection, collaborating with operations teams to minimize disruption, and mentoring junior engineers to build internal OT expertise.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
• 5 – 7 years of experience in industrial automation, control systems, or OT environments
• Expert knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, Ethernet/IP, Profinet)
• Proficiency with major automation platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell)
• Good understanding of OT and Industrial network architecture, including industrial Ethernet and OT specific wireless technologies
• Experience with virtualization technologies and cloud integration for OT environments
• Knowledge of cybersecurity tools and technologies specific to industrial environments

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Certifications Preferred:

• ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fundamentals Specialist
• GIAC Critical Infrastructure Protection (GCIP) or Industrial Defender (GRID)
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Vendor-specific certifications (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.)

Industry Background:

• Manufacturing, utilities, oil & gas, or critical infrastructure experience
• Hands-on experience with brownfield and greenfield industrial projects
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and safety systems (SIS, F&G)
