The Director of Accounting & Controls is a key financial leadership role responsible for overseeing the integrity of accounting operations and internal control systems across the organization. This position ensures compliance with GAAP, maintains robust internal controls, leads the corporate accounting team, and manages the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes. The role requires deep technical accounting expertise, a strong understanding of risk mitigation, and the ability to lead process improvement initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this leader will collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Operations, IT, and Audit to support the companys strategic objectives and financial health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide strategic leadership and oversight of accounting operations, including general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial close processes.
Develop, maintain, and enforce robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting.
Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP.
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks through effective policy implementation and control assessments.
Review, enhance, and ensure adherence to company-wide accounting policies and procedures.
Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and accurate documentation.
Collaborate with IT on system security, access controls, and the design of automated controls within ERP systems.
Guide the accounting team in resolving complex accounting issues and improving workflow efficiency.
Provide training, coaching, and development opportunities to accounting staff and managers.
Support special projects such as system upgrades, process automation, and compliance initiatives.
Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems, policies, and processes.

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA designation strongly preferred.
9+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in a leadership or controls-focused role.
Deep understanding of US GAAP and internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO).
Experience leading financial audits and managing ICFR or SOX compliance programs.
Strong technical accounting skills, with the ability to assess complex accounting treatments.
Demonstrated ability to build and enforce scalable control structures across departments.
Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP or similar) and strong Excel skills.
