This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing a multidisciplinary hardware team and overseeing the full lifecycle of avionics hardware development for spacecraft systems. The role blends people management, technical program leadership, and direct engineering contribution.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership (20%)
Manage a team of 8 (3 mechanical engineers, 5 electrical engineers, and 1 technician)
Lead a cross-functional team responsible for both circuit card and enclosure design
Foster team development, mentorship, and technical growth
Technical Program Management (60%)
Own project roadmaps, budgets, and requirements for spacecraft hardware programs
Act as the technical program manager, driving execution and prioritization
Oversee 12 concurrent projects with lifecycles typically under a year
Hands-On Technical Contribution (20%)
Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance on board-level design
Support engineering test equipment development (20% of engineering effort); 80% of work supports flight hardware
Contribute to requirements gathering, block diagram development, and early-stage product definition
Additional Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor the team responsible for the development of design concepts and architectures for current and future spacecraft
Identify tasks and resources required to meet company objectives and develop schedules for completion
Track progress against schedules and adjust plans as needed
Work with outside vendors and contractors to ensure performance aligns with design requirements and timelines
Contribute directly to hardware development tasks, including circuit design, harness design, and/or systems integration

7+ years of experience in full lifecycle hardware design and development
Electrical engineering background with strong board-level design experience
Experience managing engineering teams or technical project leadership
PCB layout and board stack-up design experience
Familiarity with Altium and NX (or similar mechanical/electrical design tools)
Experience with environmental testing (e.g., MIL-STD, harsh environments)
Strong understanding of project management fundamentals (budgets, schedules, requirements)
Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages
Experience with test programs of electrical components to aerospace requirements
Experience with system engineering of electrical and avionics components, and how they integrate into a full launch vehicle system
