Job Description

We are seeking a Tooling Engineer to support the design, fabrication, and integration of production jigs and fixtures across all production areas. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective tooling solutions that enable product development, streamline manufacturing processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
This role requires a highly skilled engineer with strong problem-solving abilities, a proactive mindset, and a passion for driving innovation through advanced tooling technologies, materials, and processes.
[Engineers in this role will split their time between CAD design and hands-on discoverygathering requirements, working with suppliers, and commissioning tools.]

RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will involve the coordination of resources to support Tooling requirements at all levels, including the following:
Design and develop tooling for manufacturing processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
[CAD experience in any system is acceptableAutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX.]
Work closely with Manufacturing, Design, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure tooling aligns with production and product needs.
[This includes gathering requirements directly from the floor and integrating failure data into tooling design.]
Support procurement and commissioning of tooling solutions, ensuring on-time delivery and performance to specifications.
[Experience working with or ordering from external suppliers is highly valued.]
Contribute to process improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time and cost while improving tooling performance and quality.
[Tooling is a key lever in reducing the time it takes to build a launch vehicleROI and implementation speed are critical.]
Participate in project planning activities, including estimates, timelines, and deliverables, under the guidance of project leadership.
Evaluate new tooling technologies and materials, recommending solutions to enhance efficiency and capability.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all tooling designs and implementations.
Troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues during development and production phases.
Share knowledge and collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders.
Represent Tool Engineering as a trusted and skilled partner within the broader engineering organization.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in tooling design and development.
Proficient in manufacturing processes, materials, CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX), and simulation tools.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Experience with GD&T and/or drawing interpretation.
[GD&T is a mustespecially understanding tolerance stack-ups across long assemblies.]
Demonstrated experience supporting tooling development through design, procurement, and implementation.
[Candidates should have worked across multiple phases of a program lifecycle.]
Experience with composites and welding (tube and metal fabrication).

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Familiarity with FEA or structural analysis tools is a plus.
Experience in both development and production environments.
Experience working with or ordering tooling from external vendors (preferred)
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Kaizen events, value stream mapping).
Strong communication skillsmust be able to explain technical decisions clearly, including to leadership.
Self-starter with a proactive mindset; able to work independently and seek out answers.
