Job Description

Our client, a leading spacecraft manufacturer, is seeking a Tooling Engineering Manager with a strong focus on process optimization and operational efficiency. This role will lead a team of Tooling Engineers responsible for the design, fabrication, and integration of production jigs and fixtures across all manufacturing areas. The ideal candidate will not only bring deep technical expertise in tooling but also a passion for building scalable, repeatable frameworks that drive consistency and productivity across the organization.

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring a strategic thinker who can implement structured processes, standardize tooling practices, and champion continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor the tooling engineering team, including hiring, performance management, and development.
Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of toolingfrom design and procurement to implementation and maintenance.
Develop and implement standardized tooling processes to support repeatable and scalable manufacturing operations.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure tooling aligns with production goals.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and increase throughput.
Evaluate and integrate new tooling technologies, materials, and automation solutions.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Manage tooling project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
7+ years of experience in tooling design and development, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
Strong background in manufacturing processes, CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and simulation software.
Proven experience implementing process improvements and standardization in a manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with GD&T and drawing interpretation.
Strong project management and communication skills.
Experience with design for manufacturability and advanced material handling technologies.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
Knowledge of propulsion integration, and launch vehicle integration processes.
