Job Description

Our mission is to train robots to operate in human environments and assist with complex tasks. To achieve this, we collect vast amounts of motion capture data by having our robots perform various customer use cases in a controlled lab setting.

We are seeking a creative and highly skilled Robot Scene Builder to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to design, construct, and maintain physical scenes that accurately replicate real-world environments and customer use cases. This is a hands-on, creative role that requires an individual who is not only proficient with tools but also has a knack for problem-solving and thinking outside the box, much like a theatrical set builder.

You are a resourceful and "handy" individual who enjoys both physical and mental challenges. You get a thrill from taking a creative idea and bringing it to life with your own two hands. You are excited by the prospect of building the physical world that our advanced robots will interact with, and you're ready to tackle novel problems with creative and practical solutions.

Scene Construction & Design: Build detailed physical scenes and props using a variety of materials and elements, including wood, plastic, and metal to simulate environments like manufacturing floors, kitchens, or warehouses. This includes creating initial layouts and concept drawings.

Project Planning: Develop a clear plan for each scene, including a bill of materials (BOM) to track and manage all necessary resources and a build schedule to ensure timely completion.

Tool Proficiency: Operate a wide range of hand tools, power tools (e.g., saws, drills, sanders), and other equipment safely and effectively to create custom structures.

Problem-Solving: Collaborate with engineers and Product team members to understand the specific requirements of a use case and creatively replicate challenging elements (e.g., building a simple mock-up of a complex machine).

Environment Maintenance: Ensure that all constructed scenes are safe, stable, and well-maintained for repeated use by the robots.

Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering, Operations, and Product teams to ensure scenes are built to the correct specifications for data collection.

Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.

Required Skills & Experience

Proven experience in a role requiring proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic construction techniques. This could include experience in carpentry, theater set design, fabrication, or a related field.

A strong portfolio or examples of previous creative projects are a plus.

Experience in planning and managing a project from concept to completion, including the ability to create concept drawings, project layouts, and a bill of materials (BOM).

Excellent creative and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to create effective solutions with limited resources (both physical and financial).

Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, technical drawings, or sketches.

Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

A collaborative spirit and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team.

A proactive and independent work ethic, taking ownership of projects from conception to completion.

Must be able to lift 25-45 pounds.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
