Job Description

An employer is seeking an EMS Test Engineers to join their team supporting the Energy Management System (EMS) platform for a major electric provider within their Grid Management Solutions organization. He or she will perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting of EMS applications, including Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, Dynamic Stability Analysis, Load Forecasting, and Operator Training Simulator (OTS). This includes writing and executing SQL queries to extract and analyze data from internal archives for test and validation purposes, develop automation scripts using Python or Perl to support EMS testing and integration, collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement modifications and enhancements to EMS applications, and develop and execute test plans, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with NERC standards. This role will be fully remote if outside of the Austin area and will require on-call availability as needed. The hourly pay for this role ranges from $70 - $85/hr depending on experience and feedback from the client.

Required Skills & Experience

7+ years of experience as a GMS Application Engineer with knowledge of Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, Dynamic Stability Analysis, Load Forecasting, Operator Training Simulator (OTS) etc

Hands on development experience with Python or Pearl Scripting

Linux OS experience

Ability to write and optimize SQL queries for data analysis

Experience with power flow analysis, voltage stability, transmission planning, and real-time system integration

Familiarity with NERC standards and compliance activities

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience working with a Power system Vendor company such as GE, Hitachi, Siemens, AspenTech on power system application modules

Experience with HMI/SCADA programming, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or DIALUX
