What to Expect
Tesla's Materials Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated BIM Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world's energy transition Battery Cathode Materials. This includes the development and scale-up of novel, high-energy and low-cost cathode materials and the development of first-of-a-kind processes that shorten the path from mine to battery cell.
As a BIM Engineer, you will support design and construction of novel battery chemical plants and lead the development of concept, construction, and fabrication for process systems at Teslas battery material manufacturing facilities. This will include 2D process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams along with 2D and 3D equipment layouts. You will also lead the coordination efforts between the various disciplines to optimize full-plant design.
What Youll Do
The BIM Engineer is expected to provide both management and design skills in support of a detailed and accurate BIM model for the Cathode facility
Responsible for proper set up and maintenance of large, federated building models typically involving multiple design and engineering disciplines and manufacturing process models
Scope of responsibility will include overall accuracy & completeness of the models, physical & operational spatial coordination, and timely implementation and resolution of any issues according to an aggressive schedule
Work with engineers, trades, and designer professionals to develop an integrated model delivery approach and lead clash detection sessions with a focus on optimizing the construction process and driving quality and value
Identify conflicts with Civil, Architectural, Structural and other MEP design elements and present well thought-out and cost-effective solutions
Contribute to the development and implementation of standardized BIM processes, workflows, and data management practices to improve efficiency and consistency across projects
Utilize laser scans, point clouds, and other photogrammetry data for design validation, clash detection, and as-built documentation to ensure model accuracy and identify discrepancies between design and existing conditions
Develop and produce accurate isometric drawings for piping systems, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and industry standards
Collaborate with engineers to review and integrate piping system designs, addressing any layout or installation issues
What Youll Bring
Degree in Engineering, Civil, Architectural, Construction Management, or equivalent field or equivalent experience
3+ years of hands-on experience working with Trades on construction of high-tech infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, etc.)
Proven expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks and reality capture applications
Proficiency in Revit, IFC, data interoperability and general awareness of other BIM and parametric design applications
Thorough understanding and efficiency with standard design and drafting practices
Familiarity with industry standards and codes (ex. ASME, ANSI)
