Job Summary
As a Field Service Technician in the Grid Technology Services – Substation Upgrades division, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of high-voltage substations. This includes monitoring, maintaining, and repairing equipment, as well as providing on-site technical support. The role involves extensive travel, irregular work hours, and close collaboration with internal teams, customers, and contractors. You’ll be on-site three days a week for 10-hour shifts and on call with a 1–2-hour emergency response time.
Day to Day responsibilities:
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on substation equipment, including troubleshooting and repairs.
• Monitor SCADA systems, respond to alarms, and write/execute switching orders as needed.
• Travel to substation sites for switching operations and emergency support.
• Document work using digital tools, including service reports and time/expense logs.
• Coordinate with utility operators, contractors, and engineering teams to align schedules and responses.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and support emergency response readiness.

Required Skills & Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• OSHA 30 certification
• Familiarity with construction site protocols
• Mechanical aptitude - ability to troubleshoot and repair substation equipment
• Experience monitoring SCADA systems
• Willingness to travel based on project needs
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience in substation maintenance, installation, or commissioning
• Excellent knowledge of SAP or similar software/hardware
• Prior experience with digital documentation and service reporting tools
