Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly technical, hands-on DevOps Engineer to lead AWS cloud cost optimization initiatives across a multi-account environment. This individual will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and executing infrastructure changes that drive a targeted 20-23% reduction in AWS spend.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in AWS infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud cost optimization. This is an execution-focused role where the engineer will not only identify savings opportunities but will also implement the changes directly through Pulumi and existing GitHub/GitLab repositories.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze AWS infrastructure across 21 AWS accounts to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Focus optimization efforts on the highest-cost services, including:
o EC2 Instances
o Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) resources
o Containers
o Load Balancers
• Assess legacy applications and infrastructure to identify:
o Unused or underutilized resources
o Oversized EC2 instances
o Idle environments that can be shut down or scheduled
o Legacy workloads that can be consolidated, rightsized, or decommissioned
• Execute infrastructure changes to achieve a targeted 20-23% reduction in AWS operational spend.
• Implement changes using Pulumi and manage infrastructure code within GitHub/GitLab repositories.
• Modify existing IaC configurations and deploy approved optimization initiatives.
• Partner with engineering teams to ensure cost reductions do not negatively impact performance, security, or availability.
• Track and validate realized savings from optimization efforts.

Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience supporting production environments.
• Proven track record reducing AWS cloud spend through infrastructure optimization.
• Deep understanding of EC2 cost management, rightsizing, instance scheduling, reservations/savings plans, and resource utilization analysis.
• Strong experience with Pulumi.
• Experience managing and editing infrastructure code stored in GitHub and/or GitLab.
• Ability to independently identify opportunities, develop solutions, and implement changes with minimal oversight.
