Job Description

Insight Global has an opening for a Transmission Planning Engineer supporting a leading Electrical Utility company in the state of South Carolina. We have an opening for a junior, mid, or senior level engineer to help with Transmission Planning studies and to help modernize the Transmission infrastructure for this utility across the region. Responsibilities:
- Performing transmission planning studies including power flow, short circuit and system stability analysis to evaluate system performance and recommend capital construction projects to ensure reliability and economic expansion of the transmission system to meet future load growth
- Evaluating interconnection projects requests to ensure system reliability meets national and regional requirements as well as the internal planning criteria. Verbal communication and written reports will be required to demonstrate the results and recommendation to internal and external stakeholders/customers
- Defining transmission facility requirements and project scope within the Budget Item Request (BIR) to initiate or recommend capital construction projects
- Performing transmission impact evaluations and making recommendations to support corporate resource planning needs
- Maintenance of the transmission system models in the development of system model
- Performing other transmission studies as required by NERC reliability standards or requested by internal or external stakeholders
- Coordinating with other utilities to address local, regional and inter-regional transmission planning needs

The compensation for this position varies based on experience from $85,000 to $130,000.

Required Skills & Experience

- Any experience with modeling/simulation software (PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, CAPE, Aspen) is highly preferred
- Experience with Perform power flow, short circuit, system stability and economic studies required to evaluate transmission system performance to ensure compliance with NERC Planning Standards would be exceptional
- Knowledge of BIR documentation to initiate work on recommended system improvements.
- Ability to prepare study results and recommendations for presentation to internal and external stakeholders
