Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the general supervision of respiratory care management, the respiratory care practitioner provides clinical patient care assessments initiation and modification of respiratory care procedures and therapies to neonatal pediatric and adult patient populations.


JOB FUNCTIONS: 1) The RT evaluates, assesses and performs prescribed clinical procedures and therapy by order of a licensed medical provider in compliance with department policies and procedures; 2) The RT Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or intervention and offers recommendations on patient care to the medical staff; 3) The RT is responsible for evaluating, assessing and maintaining equipment used in the delivery of Respiratory Care therapeutic modalities such as ventilator management, weaning, airway management and care; 4) The RT understands and implements the facilities policies regarding infection control and bio-hazard waste procedures; 5) The RT records all pertinent data and treatment information at the time of treatment on the approved flow sheets or EMR; 6) the RT understands HIPAA privacy rules and will safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of all patient medical information (PHI); 7) The RT assumes lead responsibilities as delegated; 8) The RT must ensure optimal interpersonal skills to instruct, treat and calm patients; 8) The RT must have analytic skills to interpret blood gas reports;
9) And any other duties dictated by the Respiratory Manager necessary to fulfill the role of the Respiratory Therapist and meet the needs of the residents.

Required Skills & Experience

• Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RT in this state (registered or certified)
• Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care
• Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation
• Experience with respiratory equipment.
• Associate Degree with a major in Respiratory Therapy.
• BLS and ACLS certification will be required.
• Current RI Respiratory Care Practitioner License.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• One year of experience as a respiratory care practitioner preferred.
