Job Description
Insight Global is hiring a Supervisor - Mechanical Design to join a major Canadian Satellite and Space company. The succesful candidate will be a member of the management team and reports to the Manager, Mechanical Design. The supervisor manages a section within a large engineering department, developing and maintaining a workforce with the key technical skills required to ensure the successful execution and delivery of the company’s products and projects. The supervisor will oversee recruitment, development, engagement, and retention, as well as succession planning within their team.
Additionally, the incumbent will support the Manager, Mechanical Design, in other aspects of departmental operations, such as developing the technology roadmap, continuous improvement, modernizing engineering practices, and ensuring customer satisfaction. They will support the adoption of next-generation engineering tools, techniques, and procedures to enhance competitiveness in their discipline.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit employees. Assign, direct, and evaluate their work. Monitor and manage overall employee performance, conduct annual performance reviews, and set individual goals.
- Provide staffing expertise to support program demands, R&D, and business expansion. Ensure staffing levels meet the current and future program needs of MDA.
- Train staff to ensure necessary competencies. Establish and regularly update succession plans for key skills to avoid single points of failure and bottlenecks in resource allocation.
- Ensure the team’s skills remain at the forefront of techniques in their respective engineering, manufacturing, and support service disciplines.
- Ensure staff work in an environment that fosters innovation and growth to maximize job satisfaction within business constraints, supporting career planning, providing regular feedback, and celebrating achievements.
- Oversee the facilities, processes, and engineering tools required to support departmental activities and program needs.
- Identify and manage facility conflicts across all programs for flight or development activities, as needed by the department.
- Support the management of the department’s indirect cost budget within allocation limits and provide forecasts to the finance department as needed.
- Support capital planning coordination for the department. Propose necessary capital investment items with appropriate financial justification and implement procurement.
- Ensure proper application of the company’s collective agreements.
Technical overview:
- Participate in or lead Technical Overview Board (TOB) meetings.
- Coordinate and ensure the dissemination of lessons learned.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions are properly implemented.
- Promote a design culture focused on manufacturability.
- Participate in or lead technical diagnostics and problem resolution.
- Provide specialized support to Material Review Boards (MRB) and customer requests, as applicable.

Required Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing, preferably in the space industry or a related field.
The candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
Career aspirations to lead teams in a dynamic environment.
Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiation, risk management techniques, and financial reporting.
Strong written and spoken communication skills in both French and English (due to client interactions outside of Quebec).
Prior mechanical design experience in a high tech, complex manufacturing environment
