Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an ambitious future leader to join a top Canadian space engineering firm. The ideal candidate should come with 5-10 years of total experience within software engineering with a passion and desire for leadership. This position is a fantastci opportunity for a first management role. It is an opportunity to develop as a manager, coach a team, structure it and evolve within a dynamic environment.

The supervisor will manage a section of a large engineering department, developing and maintaining a workforce with the key technical skills needed to ensure the successful execution and delivery of the company's products and projects. The supervisor will manage recruitment, development, engagement and retention, as well as succession planning within their team.

In addition, the incumbent will support the Software Development Manager in other aspects of the department's overall activities, such as developing the technology roadmap, continuous improvement, modernizing engineering practices, and ensuring customer satisfaction. You will support the adoption of next-generation engineering tools, techniques, and procedures to increase competitiveness in this field.

Specific Duties
Recruit employees. Assign, direct, and evaluate their work. Monitor and manage overall employee performance, conduct annual performance reviews, and set individual goals.
Provide staffing expertise to support program, R&D, and business development needs. Ensure staffing meets the demands of current and future programs.
Train staff to ensure the necessary skills.
Establish and regularly update succession plans for key skills to avoid single-point failures and resource allocation bottlenecks.
Ensure the group's skills remain at the forefront of technology in the respective disciplines of engineering, manufacturing, and support services.
Ensure staff work in an environment that fosters innovation and growth to maximize their satisfaction within business constraints by supporting career planning, providing regular feedback, and celebrating successes.
Oversee the engineering facilities, processes, and tools required to support departmental activities and program needs.
Identify and manage facility conflicts between all programs for flight or development activities, as required by the department.
Support the management of the department's indirect cost budget within the allocated limits and provide forecasts to the Finance department as needed.
Support the coordination of capital planning for the department.
Propose necessary capital investment items with appropriate financial justification and implement procurement.
Ensure proper implementation of the company's collective bargaining agreements.
Participate in or lead Technical Overview Board (TOB) meetings.
Coordinate and ensure the dissemination of lessons learned.
Support internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions are properly implemented.
Participate in or lead technical diagnostics and problem resolution.
Provide specialized support to Material Review Boards (MRB) and customer requests, as needed.

Process Development, Update, and Implementation:

Ensure proper application and compliance with the company’s general policies and processes by department staff.
Support the development and updating of department-specific policies, processes, work instructions, and standards, and ensure they are accessible and followed by staff.
Propose and lead new initiatives or participate in operational process improvement (OPI) initiatives to enhance departmental or overall efficiency.
Market Exploration and Development:

Provide support and participate in proposal activities.
Make recommendations regarding product development organization for new products and R&D initiatives, in line with the company’s strategic direction.
Support and coordinate patent applications in collaboration with the product development organization. Ensure trade secrets and proprietary company information are protected and securely handled.
Other Duties as Required:

Lead proposals during the initial phase, manage small projects or parts of them, support subcontract management, and participate in collective agreement negotiations.

De plus, le titulaire du poste soutiendra le gestionnaire du développement logiciel dans d’autres aspects des activités globales du département, tels que l’élaboration de la feuille de route technologique, l’amélioration continue, la modernisation des pratiques d’ingénierie et la satisfaction des clients. Il contribuera à l’adoption des outils, techniques et procédures d’ingénierie de nouvelle génération afin d’accroître la compétitivité dans ce domaine.

Tâches spécifiques :
Recruter les employés. Assigner, diriger et évaluer leur travail. Surveiller et gérer la performance globale des employés, effectuer les évaluations annuelles et fixer des objectifs individuels.
Fournir une expertise en dotation pour soutenir les besoins des programmes, de la R&D et du développement commercial. S’assurer que les effectifs répondent aux exigences des programmes actuels et futurs.
Former le personnel pour garantir les compétences nécessaires.
Établir et mettre à jour régulièrement les plans de relève pour les compétences clés afin d’éviter les défaillances critiques et les goulets d’étranglement dans l’allocation des ressources.
Veiller à ce que les compétences du groupe restent à la pointe de la technologie dans les disciplines respectives de l’ingénierie, de la fabrication et des services de soutien.
Garantir que le personnel travaille dans un environnement favorisant l’innovation et la croissance, afin de maximiser leur satisfaction dans les limites des contraintes commerciales, en soutenant la planification de carrière, en fournissant des retours réguliers et en célébrant les réussites.
Superviser les installations, processus et outils d’ingénierie nécessaires pour soutenir les activités du département et les besoins des programmes.
Identifier et gérer les conflits d’utilisation des installations entre les différents programmes pour les activités de vol ou de développement, selon les besoins du département.
Soutenir la gestion du budget des coûts indirects du département dans les limites allouées et fournir des prévisions au service des finances si nécessaire.
Appuyer la coordination de la planification des investissements du département.
Proposer les investissements nécessaires avec une justification financière appropriée et mettre en œuvre les achats.
Veiller à la bonne application des conventions collectives de l’entreprise.
