Job Description

Our client is seeking a Data Engineering Release Lead establish and enhance release management processes across their growing Enterprise Data Organization. As the technical gatekeeper, you are the central point of ownership for deployment governance, release readiness, code promotion processes, and production risk management ensuring operational stability across enterprise data platforms and initiatives.

This is not a Project Manager or Release Coordinator position. The ideal candidate began their career as a hands-on data engineer and has expanded into release governance and deployment leadership. They understand how data pipelines, ETL processes, CI/CD workflows, and production environments operate together and can proactively identify risks before code reaches production.
Key Responsibilities include:
· Establish and govern enterprise release management processes with Azure Devops and CI/CD pipelines
· Oversee production deployments across Databricks and enterprise data environments.
· Perform release readiness reviews, risk assessments, and production validations.
· Define and enforce best practices for CI/CD, source control, branching strategies, and code promotion.
· Coordinate complex deployments and assess downstream business and technical impacts.
· Partner with Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, Security, QA, and Managed Services teams to ensure successful releases.
· Drive stakeholder alignment and deployment governance throughout the release lifecycle.
· Develop scalable controls and frameworks that improve deployment reliability, operational stability, and production quality.

Required Skills & Experience

· 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, DevOps, Release Management, or Technical Leadership roles.
· Strong understanding of the end-to-end data development lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, and production support.
· Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
· Experience managing production deployments and release governance across enterprise data platforms.
· Experience implementing source control, branching strategies, and deployment best practices.
· Ability to assess deployment risk, dependencies, and production readiness.
Strong collaboration skills across Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and Operations teams.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

· Experience working within regulated environments such as healthcare, financial services, or similar industries.
· Experience managing releases involving multiple vendor or managed service teams.
· Familiarity with DataOps, ITIL, change management, governance, and operational controls.
· Azure and/or Databricks certifications preferred.
· Databricks and healthcare experience preferred.
