Job Description
The HDD Operator supports underground telecommunications construction by safely and efficiently operating horizontal directional drilling equipment to install conduit, fiber, and related infrastructure. This role requires strong technical skill, situational awareness, and the ability to work in fast‑paced field environments across varying terrain.
Operate HDD equipment (e.g., Ditch Witch, Vermeer, American Auger) to complete bores per engineered specifications.
Interpret bore profiles, HDD submittals, work orders, and calculations to execute accurate drill paths.
Utilize walk‑over locating systems (TK, DCI, Magnetics) to guide drilling operations.
Perform job site setup, including rig positioning, safety checks, and participation in Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Operate support equipment such as backhoes, excavators, skid steers, vacuum trucks, and crane trucks.
Complete bore exit pits, conduit installation, and confirm depth/clearance requirements.
Maintain equipment, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with safety and operating procedures.
Work variable shifts including nights/weekends when required by project needs

Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of experience operating or locating on HDD equipment (Ditch Witch, Vermeer, American Auger, TK, DCI, Magnetics).
3+ years operating heavy construction equipment (excavators, loaders, skid steers, vacuum trucks, crane trucks).
Ability to read/interpret bore plans, HDD submittals, and construction work orders.
Valid Class A commercial driver’s license.
Strong understanding of safety rules, field operations, and drill setup procedures.
