Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineer on the Electric Drive Systems team, you’ll design and develop the structural housing for high voltage electrical equipment used in locomotives and mining trucks. These are large sheet metal cabinets that protect and organize the power electronics that drive these massive vehicles.
You’ll be responsible for:
Creating CAD models and engineering drawings
Arranging electrical components inside cabinets for optimal performance and safety
Running simulations to test for heat, stress, and vibration
Supporting validation testing in labs and on actual vehicles
Collaborating with cross-functional teams (electrical, thermal, systems)
Interpreting test data and refining designs based on results
Working hands-on in industrial labs and around large transportation equipment
Presenting technical data and updates to internal stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electromechanical Engineering
2+ years of experience in mechanical design for things such as electrical enclosures, battery packs/ energy storage systems/power electronics modules, avionics/ aerospace electrical modules, HVAC Units and Electrical Cabinets, Industrial Machinery Panels, Renewable Energy Systems, Rail and Transportation cabinets for control/ propulsion systems (see below for more specific examples)
Proficient in CAD modeling software and FEA/ CFD simulation (programs like NX, Solidworks, Creo, ANSYS, COMSOL)
Experience designing:
Sheet metal fabrications
Cast, molded, and machined components
Mechanical enclosures for electrical equipment
Familiarity with:
Thermal management (conduction, convection, forced cooling)
Power electronics modules (inverters, rectifiers)
Comfortable working in heavy industrial environments at times (labs, manufacturing floors, large vehicles)
Strong communication skills
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with electrical equipment in mining vehicles or locomotives
Hands-on validation experience in labs (thermal chambers, vibration tables)
Strong project experience even if fresh out of school
Demonstrated ability to lead module development
