Job Description

Position Summary
The Business Data Analyst will play a key role in understanding business data needs, documenting current state processes, defining transformation and data quality rules, and collaborating closely with data engineers and testers to ensure high quality data solutions. This role combines analytical depth with strong communication and documentation capabilities, supporting both new solution development and continuous improvement of existing data processes.

Data & Technical Skills
• Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and related data engineering tools/platform components.
• Strong understanding of data transformation logic, ETL concepts, and data pipeline workflows.
• Proficiency in querying and validating data using SQL or similar tools.
• Solid understanding of data management principles, including data quality, metadata, lineage, and business rules.
Documentation & Analysis Skills
• Ability to document current state data flows, including inputs, outputs, business logic, transformation rules, and data quality rules.
• Strong capability to translate business requirements into precise technical specifications.
• Experience writing detailed test cases and validation criteria for QA and engineering partners.
Business & Communication Skills
• Ability to clearly explain data logic, issues, and impacts to both business and technical stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration skills, especially when working with data engineers, QA testers, actuaries, and business partners.
• Structured, detail oriented, and comfortable managing ambiguity and complex data environments.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with insurance or employee benefits data (disability, dental, vision, etc.).
• Familiarity with actuarial data, reporting, or modeling concepts.
• Exposure to agile delivery practices and modern cloud data ecosystems.
