Job Description
• This is an operations engineering role intended to assist and supplement the existing operational engineers and management team.
• Demonstrate a proactive desire and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills.
• Promote a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of data center operations.
• Collaborate with design, construction and commissioning teams to properly test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
• Understand the design, functionality, and operational requirements of the data centers.
• Support 24x7x365 on-site data center operations and electrical infrastructure.
• Serve as a technical authority for on-site operations related to large-scale, mission-critical electrical systems - including design and functionality.
• Lead the establishment of operational procedures, ensuring highly redundant electrical operations are maintained
• Manage electrical infrastructure across the data center campus, ranging from a single large-capacity facility to multiple smaller sites.
Job Tasks:
• Reviews and approves MSOW for third-party contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and service providers on site.
• Perform analysis of monitoring of the performance of maintenance and operations of equipment (e.g., electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety) within the data center with supervision
• Safely leads emergency monitoring and response to various abnormal conditions with supervision, utilizing emergency operating procedures (EOPs).
• Authors, reviews and approves operational procedures (SOP, MOP, EOP) for planned and corrective work
• Provides after-hours and on-call engineering escalation support including attending to site if incidents cannot be resolved remotely. Escalation responsibilities are 24/7/365 as coordinated with operations management.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work and comply with all physical security procedures and policies
• Take daily operational readings of all electrical equipment through routine rounds/log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
• Provide oversight and execution of operational procedures including but not limited to
o Energize a cabinet in a Colo
o Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) preventative maintenance quarterly and annually
o System control panel preventative maintenance
o Battery preventative maintenance
o Switchgear, transformer, and service board maintenance
o Remote Power Panel (RPP) shutdown of 1 source. Critical Load is still supplied through one source (“N”).
o PDU shutdown for power meter replacement.
o Power Interruption Testing (PIT)
o Master controller shutdown or replacement.
• Expert understanding of the Provincial Electrical Code and lock out tag out standards.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing CSA Z462 in operational safety management.
• Review and interpret protective coordination and incident energy studies.
• Oversee the maintenance and operation of fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Lead the troubleshooting, repair and replacement of instrument sensors and calibration.
• Experience with building and power management systems (BAS, EPMS)

Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ year(s) work experience post-graduation in technical fields (e.g. automotive, electrical, controls, data center)
- 1-3+ years of critical environment experience.
- 1+ years’ experience with power systems in a critical industry (e.g. 3 phase/single phase transformers, low voltage switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS's), arc-flash studies, breakers etc.).
- 2+ years’ experience designing, testing, or implementing electrical systems in a data center, industrial, or mission-critical environment
- Building Systems Experience ie:

Substation

Generators
Utility
- Resource(s) will be working Monday through Friday, core business hours between 8 AM and 5 PM as 100% onsite.
o Able to work a flexible work schedule which could include 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, 3-, 4-, or 5-day work weeks. Provides escalation support services as required by the business 24/7/365 as coordinated by operations management. Must be able to go to the site to support incidents while on call.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
P.Eng. license in Ontario (preferable)
